Positive organizational psychology 2.0: from technology to well-being

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

At coach.lt, we are proponents of positive organizational psychology, the science of organizational well-being.

Recently, van Zyl et al. introduced a new concept called Positive Organizational Psychology 2.0 or POP 2.0. According to the authors, POP 2.0 is defined as:

an evidence-based, data-driven field of scientific inquiry that embraces technological developments, design principles, and innovations to understand and improve the positive individual, organizational, and societal characteristics required for optimal psychological functioning, well-being, and performance. [1]

The researchers also discussed various ideas of POP 2.0. We believe that some of the principles disucssed in the article are of key importance for technology organizations:

1. A holistic view of positive organizing. Individuals, teams, leaders, organizational structures, and broader societal influences interact on different levels and act as a function of positive organizing.

2. Focus on creating positive physical and virtual environments and meta-verses. Physical and virtual environments are equally important.

3. Development and deployment of artificial human companions. POP 2.0 believes they have the potential to enhance collaboration and well-being in organizations.

4. Real-time status tracking and assessment of positive characteristics. Innovative technologies and assessment methods should enable continuous feedback and assessment of well-being, thus facilitating timely interventions and supporting positive growth.

5. Advocating for more sustainable approaches to work and wellbeing. POP 2.0 encourages finding a balance between the well-being of individuals and the ecological footprint of organizations.
